Volunteer: Court Accompaniment Advocate

REPORTS TO:    Domestic Violence Program Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator

GENERAL: This position provides support to our Legal Department and our Domestic Violence Program regarding court accompaniment for restraining order hearings.

POSITION OVERVIEW: Provide trauma informed peer accompaniment to Domestic Violence and Civil restraining order hearings. Provide trauma informed crisis intervention, peer counseling and advocacy to those survivors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a valid California state-certified Crisis Intervention Training certification.Must pass agency Live Scan.Must be over 18 years old.Must have online access to sign up for shifts and submit volunteer hours.Are not a current Stand Up Placer client or have received SUP services within one year.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Complete on-the-job training and at least 2 hours of shadowing time in court with the Domestic Violence Coordinator, Domestic Violence Program staff and/or Crisis Intervention Trained volunteer.Be knowledgeable of the restraining order process and court procedures. Provide court accompaniment for clients who are obtaining a restraining order exam as well as providing trauma informed crisis intervention, peer counseling and advocacy to those survivors. Complete and enter demographic data per policies and procedures after accompanying a client. Complete volunteer hour timesheet after each shift.Notify the Volunteer Coordinator at least 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel your shift.

YOUR VOLUNTEER IMPACT: For every hour you volunteer, we receive $24/per hour in grant funding match. This is very significant and helps us in meeting our grant requirements. Your time also helps our hard-working staff advocates tremendously.

POSITION OVERVIEW: Provide legal assistance such as document preparation and legal research on a case-by-case basis. Research may include accessing Westlaw and providing summary findings to the Legal team. Periodic opportunities to attend hearings with Staff Attorney.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a valid California state-certified Crisis Intervention Training certification.Must pass agency Live Scan.Must be over 18 years old.Must have online access to submit volunteer hours and depending on assignment to perform research.Are not a current Stand Up Placer client or have received SUP services within one year.
