REPORTS TO:    Domestic Violence Program Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator

GENERAL: This position may provide on-site and/or remote support group facilitation and/or skill share group facilitation. Hours and location flexible.

POSITION OVERVIEW: Provide trauma informed support group facilitation and/or skill share group facilitation to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a valid California state-certified Crisis Intervention Training certification.
  • Must pass agency Live Scan.
  • Must be over 18 years old.
  • Must have online access to sign up for shifts and submit volunteer timesheets.
  • Are not a current Stand Up Placer client or have received SUP services within one year.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete on-the-job training which may include learning about support group facilitation best practices.
  • Complete at least 2 hours of support group shadowing time with our Domestic Violence Program Coordinator, a staff therapist or intern, or CIT volunteer currently facilitating a SUP support group.
  • Provide trauma informed support group facilitation which may include crisis intervention and peer counseling to group participants.
  • Working knowledge of local referrals, the cycle of violence, safety planning, housing options, forensic exam processes, Restraining Order information and family law court processes.
  • Notify the Volunteer Coordinator at least 24 hours in advance if you are unable to facilitate the support group on your agreed upon date and time.

  • Must embrace principles of trauma informed care and commit to on-going personal growth.
  • Compassion and understanding for people in crisis.
  • Communicate effectively and without judgement abiding by agency confidentiality policy.
  • Possess emotional maturity and stability and exercise appropriate boundaries with clients and staff.
  • Attention to detail, excellent organizational and critical thinking skills to problem-solve effectively.

YOUR VOLUNTEER IMPACT: For every hour you volunteer as a Support Group Facilitator we receive $24/per hour in grant funding match. This is very significant and helps us in meeting our grant requirements. Your time also helps our hard-working staff advocates tremendously.
